Renovation Herengracht Amsterdam

The complete renovation of a duplex apartment on the historical Herengracht has almost come to an end. ELA has designed new steel / glass doors to the garden and a minimalistic steel balustrade around an existing staircase. Thanks to the new minimalistic doors, the garden becomes part of the interior. It is always nice to see that the clients are more than satisfied with the final result.

Achitecture Tour Guiding

In 2022, Lamers gave and organized about thirty guided tours in the Netherlands and abroad (Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Manchester & Liverpool and Berlin). The groups varied from 7 people of a Swedish Developer from Stockholm, through different classes of students from Culemborg and Kassel up to 123 person of a investor bank from Paris!

Building Permission Herengracht

On October 19, the Municipality of Amsterdam granted the environmental permit for the replacement of a glass front of a national monument on the Herengracht in Amsterdam. The existing single-glazed facade will be replaced by a slender steel conservatory facade, which will greatly improve the view on the monumental garden house.

USF Study Trip to Manchester & Liverpool

From September 28th to October 1st, Lamers and his colleagues from the Urban Study Foundation (USF) organized a study trip to Liverpool & Manchester. This was the first trip of USF since the pandemic and in total the foundation has organized seven study trips in Europe until today.

De Grote Reis to Morocco

From 3rd to the 24th of July, Lamers has accompanied “De Grote Reis” (The Big Trip) of  Stylos (Faculty of Architecture). The journey with a total of 24 students went by train via Paris and Barcelona to Andalusia (Granada, Cordoba & Seville) and subsequently by boat to Morocco. There the group visited Chefchaouen, Fez, Rabat, Essaouira, Marrakesh and finally the Sahara (Merzouga)!

Teaching at TU-Delft

The final presentation of the ON4 design course was held at the Faculty of Architecture on June 23rd. This event concluded the academic year in which Lamers taught three different design courses (ON1, ON4 & ON6) and two analysis courses GR3 and GR4, the latter including a study trip to Lyon at the end of march 2022 (see pictures).

Building Permission House Extension

On April 11, the Municipality of Amsterdam granted the Building Permit for the extension of the Family House designed by ELA on Steigereiland. The wooden structure of approximately 30 m2 is currently being built by PIJL Bouw & Interieurs (delivery is planned at planned at the beginning of 2023).

OBL RUHR-TOUR

After a pandemic break of more than one year, Emiel Lamers of ArchiGuide.nl has started taking groups abroad again! From September 9 to 11, 21 members of OBL (Overlegorgaan Bouwnijverheid Lelystad) went to the “Ruhrgebiet” in Germany . On the program: Innenhafen Duisburg, Landschafspark Duisburg-Nord, Zeche Zollverrein, Academy of Mont Cenis, Headquarter of ThyssenKrupp and the Phoenix lake. Former industrial heritage sites transformed into leisure parks, green office campus and a popular housing area. The tour has been organized by Rientjes & Partners.

The rebuilding of 3 apartments in Amsterdam has been started

On the 4th floor on Overtoom 347, overlooking the famous Vondelpark, the rebuilding of three apartments has been started this week. Two studio apartments plus a one-bedroom flat will be completely be renewed. ELA has designed the new floor plans of the three flats. The construction works are being done by Bouwbedrijf Selie BV based in Amsterdam since 1921.

Teaching at the TU Delft

Emiel Lamers has been teaching again at the TU Delft since 2016. In the Bachelor programme, he is now the design mentor of the ON1 and ON4 design courses and GR1 and GR4 the research courses. He has also been the head architecture mentor of 22 graduate students in the Master of Architectural Engineering programme.

Tour guiding in 2019

In 2019, Emiel Lamers has guided more than 700 people divided between 42 groups in Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Genk, Hasselt, Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Basel and Budapest. This year, his groups have varied from 1 to 75 people and have lasted anywhere from one hour to four days. Since Lamers started guiding tours in 2005, he has led 200 groups and a total of around 3,500 people!

International Convention of Architecture in Budapest

The Publisher House of the architectural periodical METSZET have arranged his spring International Convention of Architecture 8th March 2019 for the sixteenth time. The Association of Hungarian Architects (AHA) was associate organizer of the event. The venue was the National University of Public Service’s great Sports hall. This years theme was “East meets West – West meets East”. Emiel Lamers, Dutch architect & editor of A10 architectural periodical was the curator and chairman of the convention. He has selected and invited five architects for the lectures: Ben van Berkel (UNStudio, Amsterdam), Gábor Zoboki (Zoboki and Demeter Studio, Budapest), Spela Videcnik (OFIS Architekt, Ljubljana), Junya Ishigami (Tokyo), Ashiko Yamamito (Alphaville Architects, Kyoto). More than 800 architects took part in the event from all over Hungary and 10 other countries.

Teaching at the TU Delft

Emiel Lamers has been teaching again at the TU Delft since 2016, following a 13-year break after moving to Budapest in 2003. In the Bachelor programme, he is now the design mentor of the ON1 and ON4 design courses and GR1 and GR4 the research courses. He is also the head architecture mentor of 17 graduate students in the Master of Architectural Engineering programme. One of his students has been nominated in 2018 for the NRP Master prize.
